2007, dir. Wes Anderson, Blu-ray
Did not care much for this on first viewing, but the second time around, my appreciation grew. I think it’s the most emotionally sophisticated screenplay Anderson has directed, and the only flaws that stood out for me were a few over-used Anderson quirks — in this case, one too many uses of slow-motion and depressive folk-rock on the soundtrack. However, the three leads are absolutely terrific; I love Brody, Wilson, and Schwartzman together. The photography during the movie’s first half (i.e., on the train) is outstanding. Could do without HOTEL CHEVALIER, which I find far too precocious.
